I can't believe it's been so long since I've written here. There are just so many funny things every day that by the time I get a chance to type them, I've forgotten everything! The girls have both been sick with a cold for the last two weeks. Last week they were just recovering with a lingering runny nose every now and then. The week before that, they both had a fever from Tuesday through Friday and were miserable. Yesterday, Stella spiked a fever again so I took her to the doctor. She apparently has a sinus infection which is a secondary infection and happened due to her cold lingering. She is on Augmentin and should feel better in the next few days. She's been pretty good considering how bad she must feel, but she's been asking to go to sleep throughout the day. She will periodically walk to Sophia's room and climb on her bed and say "night night" and just lay there repeating that over and over. Sophia loves climbing in with her and covering up. At times like that, they truly enjoy being sisters.
Today, Sophia was having a bit of a meltdown and was rolling on the floor making a ton of noise. I got down on the floor and as she rolled toward me I said "Ooga booga booga." She thought that was funny and started to laugh instead of cry/whine. Stella noticed and ran over, got on the floor and starting rolling around so that I would do it to her, too. She wanted in on the fun! They are both at a stage where they want to do whatever the other is doing. More often than not, that means they're fighting over a toy, book, my lap, someone holding them, etc. It's tough, but Stella doesn't understand sharing yet and Sophia is in a stage where she does not want to share.
Here is a link to the pictures we've taken from Sophia's birthday with just the four of us: album. The cake she requested was Tinkerbell so we got that made for her actual birthday. We were supposed to have a party for her the next day and have the cake then, but the girls were sick. So, this coming Saturday we're having a little party with some friends and I'm going to make her a new cake and put that Tinkerbell toy on top again. I'll post those pictures this weekend. The last few pictures are of Sophia's toes painted pink! She was soooo excited for me to do that to her toes. Now she's asking when we can do her fingernails, but I told her she has to be at least 4 for that to happen. Maybe by then she'll forget and I can put it off longer. She's just becoming such a little lady too quickly for me. And Stella's not far behind. I understand why younger siblings tend to get to do things sooner than the older one, but I'm really hoping to keep the same age limits for Stella that I set for Sophia on things like this.
Stella has been just amazing us with her vocabulary building that is occurring. She can identify many, many pictures of animals, things, etc. She can tell us more now what she wants or doesn't want. She lets us know when she needs a diaper by pointing to her diaper and saying diaper the immediately after she's done going. If you ask her if she needs a diaper, she turns and walks or runs to the changing table. Her most recent word acquisitions are octopus and popsicle. She brings me books to read to her alllllll day long! It is by far her favorite thing to do. That is exactly what Sophia was like at the same age. I'm sure it's helping with the new vocab.
