Time flies
This photo was taken at Bass Pro Shops at their first night of winter wonderland at the store. They had hot chocolate and cookies, lit the outdoor Christmas tree and Santa came riding up on a boat pulled by a pickup! Then, you could have pictures taken with him in his workshop downstairs. This is the best I could do there because my girls are not fans of sitting with Santa. If you've never visited a Bass Pro Shop, I highly recommend it just for the experience. We have one here at Patriot Place (yes, where the Patriots play) about 6 miles away. They did trick-or-treating throughout the store with pumpkin painting and bobbing for apples and free samples of fudge from their snack shop for my moms group. They have a full restaurant there, and a HUGE fish tank and lots of fun things to look at. My girls ask to go regularly because we pass it every time we drive Daddy to work.A lot has changed since I blogged here last. We moved 1000 miles, from SC to MA in September, then moved again within MA in October. Drew started his fantastic new job in Westwood (outside Boston). I got an extra job for holiday money at Target (nights and weekends). Sophia outgrew all her 3t clothes in height. Stella is 100% potty trained and so darn cute in her little undies! We have made ZERO new friends (sad, I know, but moms here are pretty snobby in these wealthy towns), but we have hung out a lot with old friends. We have given up a car (hopefully only temporarily) so I either drive Drew to work so I can have the car for the day, or he takes it and we stay home, or Diane so nicely carts us everywhere with our extra carseats that seem to be permanently installed in her backseat. My girls just experienced a BIG snowstorm for the first time in their lives (that they remember). They have also experienced FREEZING temps for the first time, too. Sophia has experienced these things before, but not since she was 1, so it doesn't really count. We wanted to go out and build a snowman today but the temperature coupled with the wind stopped us. We're not quite ready for that yet. We are supposed to get ANOTHER storm Sunday with accumulating snow, so we'll have plenty of time for snowmen and snow angels.
I can't believe Christmas is right around the corner. We have all gifts bought but nothing wrapped yet! I have to work all weekend so I guess I better get on that. Sophia is REALLY into ballet this year and can not WAIT until Santa brings her a ballerina bar because she's been so good. She found a picture of one in a catalog in September and has been asking for it since. She also picked out a balance beam which Yiayia and Papou are so nicely supplying for Christmas. I will have two very excited girls come Christmas morning. I can't wait to see their faces when they come downstairs to the tree. Sophia keeps reminding me about carrots for the reindeer...she really doesn't want them to get left out. Both girls received a letter from Santa (thanks Yiayia) but Sophia was too freaked out about it to have me read it. I think she is afraid of the idea of a strange man entering our house when we're sleeping. Sometimes she thinks to much about things!
Sophia has a new funny, unintentional habit. When she learns about something new, she must make funny associations in her mind trying to remember the new term. For example, she learned about airheads (the candy) at Halloween. The next time she noticed them in the grocery store, she looked at me and asked for blowfeet. I couldn't understand what she meant until she explained what they looked like. She still calls them blowfeet after I've corrected her gently many times. I think the association stuck. The other day Drew was talking about one of his favorite restaurants, Five Guys, and when asking about it a little while later, Sophia called is Three Mans. The last one I can remember is there is a short little show on Disney called Emily Yeung (pronounced Young) and Sophia calls her Emily Old. These are totally unintentional on her part (she doesn't ever realize she isn't saying the correct name until I tell her) but they are really funny! I look forward to the next one for a good, silly laugh.
Since moving back, Drew and I got to attend a Celtics game...SO MUCH FUN! And I got to attend a Patriots game...again, WAY FUN! We hope to someday take the girls to a Red Sox game which we would all love. Otherwise, we haven't gotten the opportunity to explore the family friendly things yet. We did Boo at the Zoo in Attleboro but it was at night and you couldn't see much. We're waiting for the Spring to go to that zoo again and the one in Providence. We are going to take the girls to the museums and aquarium in Boston and hopefully just to walk around, too. I have to explore the indoor things to do here this winter which is a new experience for me with toddlers. Sophia was almost 2 when we moved to SC, but I was working so I didn't get to do things during the day in the winter with her. We're hoping to find lots of ACTIVE things since the park is not an option like it was in SC. I suppose they will keep active with the balance beam, ballet bar and new mini-trampoline, but I think we might to stir crazy after the last two winters being able to go out in sweaters all winter! We did attend a touch a truck (Halloween style) and a tinkerbell party at Borders. I will do a photo update of the last few months. Hopefully we'll be back to blogging more in the future after we survive Christmas!
We wish everyone a happy and safe Christmas and New Year!

We're leaving...not on a jet plane...
I'm sure most of you know by now that we're leaving to move to MA Saturday morning...after a stressful, anxiety-inducing wait to find out where we'd end up. We are getting every last scrap of our lives packed up into various sized boxes to load on the rental truck in tomorrow, yes TOMORROW! I am a little nervous about getting everything done...having two sick girls for the past ELEVEN days has been rough. Getting anything done has been quite the task, although they have been better than average for girls with colds who can hardly breathe out of their noses. Sophia is definitely on the track to healing (although a low-grade fever did come back today for most of the day) but Stella's cold is only slowly creeping away. I talked to the doctor's office yesterday and they said the thick green gunk coming out of her nose NON-STOP will probably last another few days. YUCK! She has been in good spirits, for the most part, but can not be too comfortable having me wipe her nose with a tissue 10 times an hour (although it was down to about 5 times an hour this morning and maybe 1 time an hour this afternoon). It's a good thing for her that we buy the nice, soft, expensive tissues with lotion in them, and have a supply of about 7 extra boxes under the bed! Her nose is red, but could be much worse with something not-so-soft.
I've met some really nice people (albeit very briefly) this week due to freecycling lots of great things. I can't believe how many people contacted me for a mower, edger, seeder, rocking chair, couch, arm chair, hose, tv stand and bar stools. Who knew there were HUNDREDS of people just in the Greenville area who would contact me in a matter of three days for those things....at least everything seemed to go to good homes. We're hoping after getting rid of those things we'll surely have room in the truck for all the other stuff. We want to get rid of our mattresses, too, but I'm not sure anyone will want old mattresses. I'm going to post anyway, but maybe we'll just have to take them to the dump. I feel good about giving my things away. Some are really old, but used with love and still in great condition for someone else. I feel good giving my things away to people that so obviously need them. I know that someday, the good deed with come back to me in some way, shape or form.
Now I'm off to pack, pack, pack...the little odds and ends and then things you use every day are the worst things. There are some things I can't pack until the bitter end and they just hang around bugging me! By tomorrow night I will feel much better, with my entire life packed on a nice, big Budget truck headed North. At least I'll feel organized once again! Hopefully we'll get some sleep tonight......

Where is my child?
I'm missing a child. I have an impostor living in my home...one that has eaten vegetables every night at dinner for the last four nights in a row...including begging for more cauliflower over and over and over last night until she ate it all....she looks like my child...she acts mostly like my child...but she is NOT my child...Here's a recent picture...
When will the real Stella return? The one who won't touch a vegetable to save her life, the one who never tried cauliflower before last night, the one who laughs in your face when you try to give her a new food because you think this time she might try it but she knows better....where is she? Anybody see her? I will offer a reward for her return, as long as she keeps eating veggies...

Sisterly Love
Pool Time
My girls both LOVED the big pool at Yiayia and Papou's house. Too bad that by the time we move there (Labor Day weekend), the pool will need to be closed for the year. At least next summer they will be able to swim, swim, swim!

The girls and Thea Jo:

This was their favorite thing; hanging on the handle:

Stella's obviously trying to do some gymnastics or something:

I think she was contemplating jumping right in from the edge. Good thing her suit is a flotation device.
We had one really great weather day for the big pool (although the water was still pretty cold), and then one good weather day for the kiddie pool. The girls will still get to use the kiddie pool once we move as long as it stays warm enough in MA in September. Sometimes it's hot (indian summer) and other times it's very cold (sweaters and pants) in September. At least they will have the swing set and slide and chalk and tricycles....all the things they LOVE!

Whoa
Just when you're at your breaking point and think you can't handle any more stress, things seem to fall into place. Drew and I have been SO stressed out about where life was going to take us, and finally it's worked out! Drew accepted a job with a great company in Boston and we will be relocating to MA Labor Day weekend!!! While the expense of living up North is not ideal, seeing my girls thrive being around so many family members and friends is going to be worth anything we have to sacrifice.
We just got back from a 10 day trip up North to visit family and attend a wedding (the best we have ever attended, aside from our own). Being in New England and knowing we're returning there so soon made it feel like we never left. It was surreal driving back here to SC and thinking that it's only for 4 more weeks. We have started the daunting task of packing our entire home and getting rid of things we don't need. On the ride home (which took us TWO FULL DAYS), we were discussing how great it was to see our girls with family. In the 7 days we were actually visiting, our girls visited 7 different houses and felt right at home in all of them. This was not due to remembering visiting before we left...it's been to long for that. It was simply because every home belonged to either family or friends and they immediately felt welcome and loved. There is NOTHING in this world that can ever replace that feeling. As a mom, I felt so good having my girls experience that. There were some homes we did not have time to visit which will be added to the ones where they already feel at home. That is the one thing growing up that I wish I had had. All my relatives were so far away that I never had another home to go to regularly where I felt comfortable no matter what. My girls have missed out on that being here in SC but will get used to it VERY quickly, as they did on vacation. It reinforced in my mind that we made the right decision by taking the job in Boston. We will be making some sacrifices (home size, vacation opportunities, material things) but gaining so much more. We will miss our friends here in SC. We will miss the things to do in and around Greenville, but we look forward to the opportunities that await us in New England. On our trip, my girls got to go in the ocean (first time for Stella, first real time remembering for Sophia) and will get to have that opportunity any time they want. It will be about an hour or two drive from anywhere we choose to live. I can teach them to ski at the mountains where I used to go. The opportunities make me so excited I want to leave today!
If you've never visited New England, I suggest you plan a trip. There is nowhere else like it. You can travel between the 6 states so easily and they all have such different things to offer. Last Saturday, we started out having breakfast in NH, drove to ME for a wedding, back to NH for dinner, then to MA (right on the CT border) to spend the night. You can go to the ocean in five of the states (sorry VT), go on beautiful hikes in ME, NH, VT (I'm sure in MA, too), ski during the winter at great mountains, explore the incredible history in Boston (by far my favorite city), attend sporting events for some of the best teams in the world....the list goes on and on. NYC is an easy drive, Washington, DC in one day...how can anyone resist?

Big Girl Panties....
Stella's ALMOST ready for them....
Stella woke up from a 3 HOUR nap dry and then went pee on the big potty!!! She was so proud and so happy with the mini egg treat she received. Sophia was also so proud, and asked if Yiayia and Papou would be so proud of Stella. Once we get back from visiting NH and MA, I'm going to potty-train Stella for real, just in time for her 2nd birthday!

Dress-up
My little girly-girl Stella loves to get all dressed up. She especially loves lots of accessories. Her birthday is coming in a few weeks (2 already!) and I'm going to get her more purses, necklaces, hats, etc. She just can't get enough! This is what my little princess put on this morning, minus a few purses she put down before I could snap the picture:

Her crown is falling off since her hair is so fine, but it did look cute. She's reaching for one of her fancy gloves in the purse:

She has discarded all of the bracelets:

But does NOT want Sophia to have them yet:

What a pretty princess!

Greek Girls
After dinner, Sophia requested that we get her "Greek Girl" scarf so she could be a Greek girl. Then, she thought the hoola hoops completed the look. Here both girls are shouting, "Cheese!"

Another try so I could see Stella's face:

In the middle of yelling, "Greek girls!" As you can see, Stella was REALLY shouting!

My Greek dancer princess!

All Greek-girled out.
